Some ideas just seem to be a natural -- say, for instance, the banana split. The annual Banana Split Festival is on today and tomorrow in Wilmington, Ohio, which describes itself as the birthplace of the beloved ice cream specialty. Along with concerts, arts and crafts, and games, there's a booth where you can make your own banana split -- where nobody complains if your concoction is on the wild side. Banana splits, along with sundaes and milk shakes, attest to Americans' love affair with ice cream. We each eat an average of over 25 pounds of frozen dairy products each year, including 14 pounds of regular ice cream and another seven pounds of the low fat variety.
